In the Samarkand region, an Uzbek citizen lived for more than 30 years with a Soviet passport. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan. As the Ministry of Justice clarifies, a woman born in 1972 got married in 1992 and moved to another district of the Samarkand region. All this time, she did not apply to a government agency for a replacement Soviet passport. On March 14, 2026, the woman was issued and issued a modern ID card as a citizen of Uzbekistan. The mass replacement of Soviet passports with national passports in the republic was carried out in 1995–2000. Since 2011, the country began converting to biometric passports and internal identification cards by electronic means. Previously, Russia offered to return Soviet-style birth certificates, the Telegram channel “Radiotochka NSN” reported.
