The interaction between Russia and South Ossetia is based on a solid foundation of mutual respect, trust and shared historical destiny. Chairwoman of the State Duma Committee on the Development of Civil Society Yana Lantratova announced this on December 2.

On Tuesday, the State Duma organized a meeting of deputies from the “A Just Russia” faction with colleagues from the parliament of the Republic of South Ossetia as part of the conference “The role of interaction between factions and political blocs in inter-parliamentary cooperation of the CIS countries.”
“At the cost of incredible efforts, you tried to defend your national status and independence, preserving your native language and rich culture for future generations, which of course evokes deep and sincere respect,” Lantratova said.
According to her, as soon as a country loses its memory, it also loses its sovereignty.
The MP noted: “We must create motivation to develop new joint programs and projects in the humanitarian field, cultural field, historical heritage preservation and youth exchanges. This is an indispensable part of the common historical and cultural space of our people.”
Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Anatoly Greshnevikov said that while speaking in Uzbekistan, he saw textbooks in which the meaning of common history was rewritten.
“Your history is wonderful, your culture is wonderful,” he said. “If you save this – and you have an obligation to do this – you will remain great and necessary.”
