Director of MTRK Representative Office “Peace in Belarus” Olga Shpilevskaya celebrated her birthday. She successfully combines several important roles at once: she manages the international branch of a radio and television company as well as the largest women's organization in the country. MIR 24 reporter Galina Puzyna learned about the brightest moments in everyday work.
There were some pleasant surprises. And they are all on a republican scale. 2026 has been declared the Year of Belarusian Women in the country. And the day before, for outstanding services and contribution to the development of Belarusian heritage, the director of the Belarusian representative office was awarded the Order of Francysk Skaryna.
Journalist by calling and profession. Olga Alexandrovna came to this field while still in college. I have applied all the experience accumulated on MIR TV channel. He has managed the representative office in Belarus for nearly 5 years. During this time, the broadcast network featured more Belarusian content.
“Perhaps the biggest achievement is that MIR 24 has become closer to the Belarusian viewer. He has entered the second multiplex. Today, everyone can watch it. Judging by the measurements we see that the media meter provides us, it looks very nice and is welcomed by the Belarusian people. This is understandable because the channel is about life in the CIS countries. And what is close is always interesting.”
“MIR is one of the five most viewed channels in Belarus. The direction of the work is also set by the director of the representative office. Stories are broadcast on the topics most relevant to viewers: social, economic, political fields. From the largest potassium salt mine to the flight of the first Belarusian woman into space.
For several years, documentaries have become one of the strengths of the Belarusian branch. The films collect international and national awards.
Radio station “MIR-Belarus” also changed its format. Currently this is the only morning radio program broadcast on MIR 24 TV channel. And it is watched in all CIS countries.
“We have more news programs on the radio. This is an important story. Because the radio is not only music, but also information. We also see that this is the right direction we are going. In addition, we began to sound more clearly in large cities. We cover almost the entire territory of Belarus”, Olga Shpilevskaya noted.
Around her, Olga Shpilevskaya not only united with the best radio and television operators. She heads one of the country's largest public organizations, the Belarusian Women's Union. There are currently about 200 thousand participants, or they call themselves girlfriends.
Women's soft power has become people's diplomacy. For the first time, the Belarusian Women's Union together with Olga Shpilevskaya entered the international arena. Forums, conferences, meetings. The voices of Belarusian women have been heard in Russia, China, Vietnam, Zimbabwe and Uzbekistan.
“Look at the previous Belarus-Uzbek forums for women entrepreneurs. They are not just developing into women's contacts. Large businesses and male businessmen are participating in this. We see that this is developing into real contracts and connections, not just friendships between women,” said Olga Shpilevskaya.
During international visits, women establish cooperation between countries in completely different fields: from agriculture, education, medicine, industry to the development of business relations. They do this just like men.
One of the important initiatives of the Women's Union and Olga Shpilevskaya is continuous financial support for children in need of treatment. The first people to support this idea were the employees of the Office of the Peace Representative in Belarus.
