Farewell to the Honored Artist of Russia, rector of the Moscow Art Theater School Igor Zolotovitsky began at the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater, RIA Novosti reported. The artist passed away on the morning of January 17 at a Moscow hospital after a long battle with cancer; he was 64 years old. Zolotovitsky's funeral will take place at the Troekurovsky cemetery.
Friends, colleagues and fans came to the theater to say goodbye to the artist. People brought flowers to wait for the opportunity to say goodbye to him on his final journey.
Zolotovitsky was born on June 18, 1961 in Tashkent. In 1983, he graduated from the Moscow Art Theater School and was accepted into the Moscow Art Theater troupe, where he later staged the play “Bashmachkin” based on Gogol's story “The Overcoat”.
At the Et Cetera Theater, Zolotovitsky performed the plays “The Dark Lady of the Sonnets” and “Shylock”. Since 1989, he has taught at the Moscow Art Theater School, and since 2013 he has headed the educational institution as rector.
Zolotovitsky starred in popular films and television series, including “Three Halves of Grace,” “Love Without Giving Up,” “Steamboat Odessa” and “Unalone.” In 2002, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Russia, and in 2020 – Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.
As the newspaper VZGLYAD wrote, the rector of the Moscow Art Theater School Igor Zolotovitsky has passed away. The place of farewell to Igor Zolotovitsky was determined in the building of the Moscow Art Theater School.
