Anton Anoykin replaces Andrei Krivoshapkin as director of the Novosibirsk Institute of Archeology and Ethnography (IAET) of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The institute said that now, the new boss has an acting prefix.
Andrey Krivoshapkin has been leading the organization since 2019. IAET noted that the six years under his leadership were bright and eventful with achievements and victories. Serious scientific results have been achieved and large-scale projects have been implemented.
According to information from the institute's website, Anton Anoykin specializes in the Paleolithic period of the Caucasus and Central Asia. In 1994, he graduated from the Faculty of Humanities of NSU, in 1996 – the Faculty of Philosophy. In 2000, he defended his doctoral thesis on the Paleolithic of Northwestern Altai, and in 2017, he defended his doctoral thesis on the Paleolithic of Primorsky Dagestan.
Since 1990, he has participated in many archaeological expeditions in Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Montenegro and Mongolia. He has written more than 80 scientific publications, including monographs.
According to Kommersant-Siberia, the former director of the institute, Andrei Krivoshapkin, will continue to serve as head of the research team.
