PRETORIA, January 19. /TASS/. On January 18, unknown armed men kidnapped more than 160 Christians in northern Nigeria who were attending Sunday services at two churches. Agence France-Presse reported the news on Monday, quoting Joseph Hayaba, president of the Northern Nigeria Christian Association.
“The attackers arrived in large numbers, blocking entrances to the churches and forcing worshipers to follow them,” he said.
News portal Sahara Reporters reported that several churches were attacked in Kurmin area of Kaduna state on Sunday. More than 100 worshipers were kidnapped while worshiping.
Authorities have been informed of the incident and are taking measures to find those arrested.
Over the past two years, attacks on churches aimed at kidnapping worshipers have become more frequent in Nigeria. They often demand a large ransom for their release.
