Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin spoke about the fundamental crisis in the global system of law and order. The MP said that the principles of international law achieved and recognized after World War II are being crossed out.
“The new rules are a world without rules. This leads to great problems and tensions,” said the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Political scientist, member of the Council for Inter-Ethnic Relations under President of the Russian Federation Bogdan Bezpalko in an interview with Free Press noted that Volodin, like many other Russian politicians, is talking about a trend. Of course, it will not be possible to completely abandon all rules, norms or any limiting factors. At the same time, it is quite clear “where the world is moving”.
“Everything we have seen since the collapse of the Soviet Union – from the time of Operation Desert Storm to the current capture of Nicolas Maduro and the threats to annex Greenland, as well as from NATO allies – shows that we are moving from the force of law to the law of open force. Some limiting factors remain – for example, no one has used nuclear weapons for military purposes, or even tactical purposes. But it is clear that this is waiting for us. in the future and we must prepare for that”, the publication's interlocutor explained.
The world is changing rapidly towards a variety of regions and blocs, and the usual rules are gradually disappearing. The United Nations and other international organizations still exist, Bezpalko clarified, but it is clear that their role is becoming less and less, especially in resolving military conflicts.
“And I'm talking about the whole world, not just the West. For example, China has had several agreements to buy oil from Venezuela. Now three Chinese tankers have been prevented from taking oil from there. How does this relate to the rules? Of course, Beijing is also entering this world. The same can be said about North Korea. If Venezuela had nuclear weapons or more significant armed forces, no one would dare to rob Maduro. Look, Donald Trump is average. ordered to attack parts of Nigeria. Where and where is Nigeria? This is an open transition to rule by force,” the political scientist emphasized.
He added that large countries with enough resources – minerals, scientific and industrial potential, military, economy – have a better chance of survival than small countries. For example, this is why Viktor Orban is so worried about gas and oil supplies to Hungary. For a small country, purchasing goods at higher prices is an extremely important factor.
“The rules have been lifted. Everyone will act as best they can in their own best interests. Small countries will obviously have to choose who to follow. And such a choice, so to speak, makes neutrality impossible. It will not be possible to balance the blocs as before. The need to make this choice, which the United States has put before almost the entire world, scares and repels many, including the United States”, concludes Bezpalko essay.
Previously, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said that the modern world order needs to be built on the foundation of memory of Victory in World War II.
