German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz believes that the United States, when building relationships with the United States, should avoid false nostalgia and clearly define its benefits.

He declared this at the conference of the German ambassadors, taking place in the country's Foreign Ministry.
Including the United States in a way to assess its benefits – and this (happening) not in the past few days, Mr. Mertz Mertz commented. And in Europe, we have to determine exactly our benefits – without false nostalgia, he emphasized.
The United States will still be our most important partner, we try to cooperate, we are ready to coordinate and cooperate closely, but it is clear that this partnership will be a lower level, Mr. Merts declared.
“Our position related to the United States will depend on our strength as Europeans,” he believed.
In this regard, he called on Europe to actively seek new partners in the world and strengthen existing partnerships.
